about

MACROSPECTIVE – VINYLISM II enables digital DJs to play the key tracks of Macro with the sound of vinyl, without actually having to carry a box of records around. All vinyl versions are direct transfers from mint vinyl copies of Macro's carefully mastered & cut releases. This allows for mixing digital files and real vinyl records without huge offsets in sound characteristics caused by switching between formats. Thus Vinylism is empowering DJs with a new tool for enhanced performance and ultimate freedom of choosing and combining their tools.

Analog or digital? Both! Get the warmth of wax AND the flexibility of losslessly transformable data. In the club, the Vinylism tracks blend perfectly with actual vinyl, eliminating the audible 'format gap' that made mixed-media sets an unpleasant listening experience. The possibilities for edits, on-the-spot loop creation, lazer-sharp cueing and precision rewinds: infinite & liberating.

+++

The vinyl effect is often misunderstood. Vinyl doesn't have better resolution or dynamics than high end digital formats, but rather colours the sound in a specific way. Due to the mechanic interaction of stylus and record, geometric distortion adds harmonics to the spectrum, causing a richer high end and an artificially enhanced stereo image. In addition, the low end is effectively set to mono, often resulting in a solidified bass foundation. Decreasing resolution from the outer towards the inner side of the record lets every next record shine with greater high end reproduction, adding perceived freshness to each new track blended in by the DJ.

These characteristics come built in with Macro's Vinyl Versions: played back on Technics SL-1200 MK2 decks with Ortofon Concorde systems and recorded using premium pre-amplification and AD conversion, they hold exactly the sound features of a typical club DJ set up. Hifi styluses and studio turntables have explicitly been avoided in order to enable ultimate sound compatibility with vinyl in a club setting.

With WAV files and pristine conversion, the digital DJ has never been so close to the classic sound of vinyl of the great club music tradition - without actually being restricted by the record. This way additional tools as provided by state-of-the-art file players and DJ software become conveniently available to those who prefer cohesive vinyl sound over the sterility of digitally mastered tracks.
